Da Brat Sentenced to 3 Years in Prison

Rapper Da Brat was sentenced to three years behind bars today in the state of GA. A Dekalb County judge handed down the sentence as punishment for hitting another woman in the face with a rum bottle at an Atlanta-area nightclub last fall.
Superior Court Judge Gail Flake also sentenced Da Brat - real name is Shawntae Harris - to seven years probation and 200 hours of community service, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution. Harris plead guilty and was convicted on a charge of aggravated assault.
According to reports, about six members of Harris’s family were present and weeping as the entertainer was taken into custody by a sheriff's deputy.
The incident occurred at a Halloween party at nightclub Studio 72 on October 31 2007. The victim, a waitress at the club, had to be hospitalized after being struck by Harris, and Flake said the woman suffered permanent facial scarring. Police accounts say the Da Brat and the waitrass had gotten into an altercation prior to the assault.
